Need advice on artist supplies?
I am not completely into the super- expensive, super- popular artist supplies. I am looking for simple, basic sets of graphite pencils, sketching pencils, charcoal pencils, and charcoal supplies. On my list, I have a sketching pencil set of 12 pencils that range from H to 9B, a starting kit for drawing that contains: a 6B aquamonolith graphite pencil, three chalk pencils, one sanguine chalk, a kneaded eraser, a tortillion, one charcoal and two charcoal pencils. I am also getting a 36-pack Faber Castell colored pencils tin. What I am really asking is, are Faber Castell colored pencils, Cretacolor chalk, and Derwent sketching pencils all good quality art supplies? Is there anything better that you would recommend? Nothing too expensive, please.
From what I've heard, Faber-Castells are the best colored pencils. Prismacolors are probably second. Derwent also has great quality. I use General's charcoal pencils, they are wonderful. You can also consider Conte sticks and pencils for sanguine and sepia colors, and I'd also add some blending stumps of different sizes if you don't already have some.
