Is venlitation needed when using pastels?
I have been painting for quite a while. I have been given many sets of oil pastels from friends and family, and haven't really used them. I want to start using them, but want to know if ventilation is needed when using them.
Not so much for oil pastels unless you plan on using turpentine.. Which by the way is pretty interesting when you dip a brush in turps and get a bit painterly pushing the oil pastel around. Similar to water color in a way. They do sell odorless turpentine. Dry pastels may create some dust but usually it falls down and doesn't become airborne.
As a side note originally oil pastels were used only for touch-up and detail on oil paintings. But artist being who they are begin to use them as they would any other drawing material.
