What the best computer for a software engineering (programming) student?
I am on my third year of courses now and I need a new computer. I'm starting to go more in-depth in my programming courses, so I thought it would be a good idea to invest in a computer that can handle all the additional software required. Although my current computer meets the actual software requirements for each of the programs individually, there isn't enough memory for all of the programs I have been told I need. I was thinking of keeping my current laptop, but getting a desktop for my school work.
I will need Visual Studios, Adobe Creative Suites, and a few other smaller programs like a java program and Visio.
Any suggestions?
The Adobe Creative Suites is for my web design and development courses. I also needed to create pdf files, so the creative suites was cheaper than buying the three programs I needed.
I have not started my programming classes yet, but I know basic programming concepts and have done the "Hello World" in a couple languages.
Well, its not so much as what is the best computer, but what are the hardware requirements that you need. So if its additional memory that you require, you could look into purchasing a laptop, or desktop which has the sort of memory that you require.
Based on the software that you've mentioned above I should reckon that you would require a minimum of 2GB of RAM; studies show that beyond this the gains are quite irrelevant. You should also focus on getting a computer that as a duo-core processor i.e. 2 processors in one, as that can better handle the multi-threading processes required by the powerful software that you use.
Then again, if its a suggestion as to the brand of computer you should get, Dell, HP, and Sony are not that bad, though Sony sells for much more than its worth since you are practically paying for the name.
